A little baby bunting and family friendly fortunes…
Not really but having gone to Grad school at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), I understand now the family atmosphere at the place. It’s somewhere only the dementedly awkward and normal people feel estranged, and even THEN it’s quite rare.
Artists of all kinds attend the school, in a variety of disciplines, and inter-departmental programs are required and encouraged, and the place is SMALL, man. Usually a maximum of 1300 students grad and undergrad are there on campus at any one time.
It’s like a big high school.
So when someone talks up CalArts — as alum and board member Don Cheedle did on Jimmy Kimmel Live — or something BAD happens. We CalArtians tend to rally around.
Something tragic did in fact occur in Brooklyn this last week. I don’t know these people. I don’t have to. But I know they need help so if there are any CalArtians out there reading this here blog, DONATE if you can. And if you can’t — like me — then get the word out.
Someone we love is in need.
